$aff|1-Eegads, it's so damned spooky, it's...
$ffa|2-Scene Psyke!
$aff|1-is the truth out there? Or is it in here...?

What's this Scene Psyke (tSP) then? Well, perhaps not all of you will
have noticed but I'm willing to bet that a lot of you, particularly the
swappers and mail-order users, will remember something similar that's
happened to you... Anyway it's probably easier for me to recount my own
experiences and those of my colleague, Mr. Phil!96, than to attempt an
explanation straight away.
$fbf
Just a couple of weeks ago it occurred to me that I hadn't heard from
Phil! for a while, and just two days later there was a jiffy on the
door mat from the man himself, it had been 2-3 months since our last
communication, so why now?
$fcf
Another occurrence: I silently cursed a man who I'd sent the fully
registered version of Balls! to in advance of any payment, and thought
"I could do with some cash, pity I didn't get so-and-so's". That same
day I visited the P.O.Box and found this man's payment, and ANOTHER
cheque as well.
$fdf
This isn't confined to the scene though, as I had a letter from a friend
in Sheffield just two days after wondering what she was up to, and there
was no way she could have known what I was thinking.
$fef
Phil! also detailed a couple of bizarre events, one relating to myself:
$fff
" ...many is the time I have sat on the bus on the way home from
work and thought "Hmm.. aint heard from Freak lately, etc
etc.." and when I get home, there is your jiffy on the gas meter
cupboard waiting for me! Yup, this has happened to me too - at
least 4 or 5 times! Infact I havent heard from anyone in the
scene for months and the day I received your disk, I also
received a postcard from Horror. Spooky. "
$eff
Also on the subject of shareware games that he'd written, which reveals
disturbing parallels with one such item above...
$dff
" ...Another strange phenomena was when I used to get orders for
my games.. After the initial "surge" (yeah, right) of orders,
weeks would pass with not one order then 3 would come the same
morning.. Then nothing for yonks again.. "
$cff
One possible theory is that the human subconcious is busy working away
day in day out, week after week, assimilating and correlating all the
data from every single thing that we do and - when a certain pattern of
events occurs or a certain time has elapsed - triggers one of the above
ideas and the related event happens. It would have happened anyway, but
our subconcious decided that "now" was the optimum time to gently remind
us about it, and as few of us know what our subconcous is up to, it
seems very spooky indeed.
$bff
Unfortunately, Phil! goes some way to wrecking this theory with another
tale which may or may not be related, in which a third (and as you'll
see, disinterested) party makes such a prediction:
$aff
" Years ago, in the C64 / Compunet days, my modem bust. I sent it
to some company for repair and it was taking bloody weeks to get
fixed so I was thinking of phoning em up. My brother was
chatting to one of his contacts shortly after and for some
reason he just said "Dont worry, you'll get it back tommorrow".
My brother mentioned it to me cus it was a pretty strange thing
to say considering this guy has no connection with company or
shit... The next morning the post came and went so I went back
to sleep, only to be woken a few minutes later by the post van,
delivering, you guessed it, the repaired modem... "
$bfe
Another theory is that it's not a coincidence at all, but it's a very
real form of Psychic ability, although it's unclear as to whether it's
an active or passive thing. The person (myself or Phil! or any of you
who experience similar coincidences) is either:
$cfd
[a] - picking up the thoughts of another person, i.e the person who is
doing the writing/sending, indicating a passive ability, or...
$dfc
[b] - influencing the thoughs of another person, which would appear to
indicate an active ability.
$efb
In all honesty I think it's more likely to be [a], because there have
been times when I've wished and wished that someone would write or that
there would be another cheque in the post, but to no avail. However,
when I *think* of something, rather than *wishing* for something, then
more often than not something comes of it.
$ffa
I also think it's more likely to be [a] because by far the majority of
instances involve people I've known for some time, and so it may be that
I'm thinking on "their wavelength", and at times when I'm occupying the
majority of their thought processes then there's that connection.
$ffb
I'm extremely interested to hear if anyone else has had similar
experiences, not just one but a whole slew of them, such as myself and
Phil! have. If you have then detail as many as you can remember, DON'T
make them up, and send 'em in to us at The Word. You never know, we
might just have found something and it could be a major scoop!
